The bluest eye essay
Even the dolls, such as Betsy Wetsy or Barbie dolls had the massive, round, deep blue eyes. Anybody who didn’t fit into this class was considered ugly. Later in the story, the readers find out that the main character was raped by her father and impregnated, as a result.īefore you even open the book, both racism and beauty are revealed through the title of the book – “The Bluest Eye.” When the book was written, blonde hair and blue-eyed people were the stereotypical portrayals of paramount flawlessness. What is more, he has an emotionally unstable personality disorder. Then again, the father of the little girl was abandoned as a kid. What is more, she does her best in order to escape from the real world by cleaning the house that belonged to a white woman. The protagonist’s mother tends to channel her feelings through encouraging the violent actions of her husband. For instance, Pecola’s mother had suffered from loneliness and truly believed that devout love was something that only white (in other words – beautiful) people had the right for. As things are moving faster, it turns out that the girl’s mom and dad have lived through some tough times as well. In the middle section of the novel, the author does her best in order to bring in her parents to support the girl’s reasoning why she believed she was ugly and that if her eyes were blue, she would finally become attractive and beautiful. But the reality is that the author of the book could not keep Pecola as the central focus of the whole book. And finally, when the readers get their hands on the third version, they see that it has no capitalization, spaces, or punctuation.Īt the very start of “The Bluest Eye,” the readers notice that the main focus is clearly on Pecola Breedlove, a ten-year-old girl. However, it contains no capitalization or correct punctuation. As for the second version of the simulated text, it is based on the message of the first version. The first version is about “Mother, Father, Dick, and Jane,” with the main focus on Jane trying to find a playmate. The first one is logical and correct grammatically. At the very beginning of “The Bluest Eye,” the readers can see three versions of the simulated text. When it comes to the titles of the chapters, each comes from the simulated text that belongs to a Dick and Jane reader. For instance, “The Bluest Eye” starts with the section called “Autumn” and ends with the one titled “Summer.” What is more, these four parts are further divided into several chapters. Each section is named for one of the seasons. I had good teeth, not a rotten one in my head. The novel contains four parts. "I was sitting back in my seat, and I taken a big bite of that candy, and it pulled a tooth right out of my mouth. It wasn"t because her teeth were rotten, the tooth just fell out. She tried to put that behind her but she lost three middle teeth, not all the same time but slowly. "The wound left her with a crooked, archless foot that flopped when she walked." (110). Pauline seemed to have just worse case of bad luck, when she was a child she stepped on a nail and she was left with a limp forever. Pauline strived for beauty because she wanted to attention and wanted to be beautiful. But the harder both characters try, the worse things get. The characters in her story think that they are ugly, by others opinions of them, and want to become beautiful so they will be recognized and be the center of attention. People only strive for becoming beautiful because they want attention. It"s been said that if you have good looks, you can make it in life with just looks alone. In Toni Morrison"s story and in real life, beauty is described by people as having blond hair, blue eyes, perfect figure, etc. The two characters that I think were followed the ideal of beauty in Toni Morrison"s story are Pauline and Pecola. The characters in Toni Morrison"s The Bluest Eye are confronted with the ideal of beauty and strive for it whether they know it or not. Meaning that beauty should not be characterized by what people are told it is, beauty is different for everyone, what is beautiful for you may be ugly to someone else. But what most people don"t know is that, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. People know that it can help you out in life. Beauty is something that a lot of people in life strive for, because everyone has fitted in their mind what exactly beauty is.
